About Us Team

Geronimo was formed when Noel P. Rahn decided to get into the wind energy development business after being approached as a land owner to be part of a large utility-scale wind project around one of his farms. Upon review of the offer, he decided to develop a wind farm himself. From 2004 onward, Geronimo pursued the development of its 20 megawatt (MW) Odin Wind Farm near the town of Odin in Southwestern Minnesota. In late 2006, the Odin Wind Farm came to an agreement with Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) of Sioux Falls, SD on the terms for a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) as an off-taker for the power generated by the Odin Wind Farm. With that PPA, Geronimo was able to attract Edison Mission Group to invest in the project and bring wind turbines that it had previously procured to the project.

Given the successful project development experience with Odin, MRES reached out to Geronimo for help in finishing the development of an 18.9MW project called the Marshall Wind Farm in Marshall, MN. Geronimo was able to take that project and finish the development to a satisfactory level in a matter of months and secured another PPA with MRES. With that PPA, Geronimo attracted capital and turbines from John Deere Wind Energy. Both the Marshall and Odin Wind Farms are currently being constructed with expected in-operation dates in the first quarter of 2008.

Geronimo has built a pipeline of nine Greenfield development projects in the Upper Midwest with an aggregate nameplate capacity of 986 MW. Geronimo currently has seven employees based in Minneapolis, MN and is looking to expand significantly. The goal of Geronimo is to become the leading “middle market” wind developer in the US by focusing on mid sized projects of 20-75 MW.
